Perhaps we should blame the 80s for giving The Suit a bad rep. Most women associate wearing suits with the big shoulder pads and big hair. On the other hand, if it’s not the era, people automatically think of the attire as business savvy. At times, I too, have this peculiar perception. The seemingly “too formal” suit is my least fashion choice, especially if I want to feel chic and modern. Who wants to wear work clothes when you’re NOT working anyway? However, the suit is catching up with changing times! Since more and more fashion game changers – magazine editors, celebrities and style bloggers – have been donning the suit and styling it in unexpected ways, it’s only right that I do the same. If you’re like me and you want this fashion change, here are several new and easy twists you can try yourself!
1. Traditional with a Twist
Going on a date night? Wear a suit to show who really wears the pants in the relationship! This super chill outfit is a great fit for any occasion. Say, if I want to go watch a ballgame with friends and have a dinner date with my family afterwards—this is always a safe choice. This is my No.1 recommendation because it can make you feel classy, confident, and carefree with this getup!
2. Mix and Match
Gone are the days, when women had to wear nothing but single-toned colors. Now, we can make bold fashion choices—even with the pantsuit. For one, pick a blazer and a pair of trousers with different fabric or print patterns. And even if I want to wear something that’s color-coded, I can avoid looking boring by matching a similar-hued pair that differs in print or texture. A tip though—avoid too much jewellery and don a pair of oxford or loafer shoes to tone down the wild mix & match style.
3. Short Suit
Who says wearing suits can’t be playful? Be fun and bold with the short suit! With a matching pant and blazer, and a printed blouse or a simple cami or tank underneath, we can communicate that we can have fun at a business meeting and talk business in a party. It’s also a great wear for the warm season; the suit is a practical alternative for the typical summer dress. If you want to standout in that barbecue your boss invited you to, or look professional in an informal meeting outside, the short suit is for you!
4. Printed Co-ords with Crop Tops
Once in a while, I like to feel a little daring. Show off some skin with a wild-printed co-ords and wear the crop top with the blazer. It’s sexy and svelte and a must-try for any fashionista! Wear a simple pair of t-strap shoes and a nude-toned purse to balance out the design. As with wearing those crazy patterns, it’s best to wear simple pieces of accessories, and nothing over the top. Wearing suits is great for after-work parties—I can simply shred the blazer and say hello to the night ahead!
5. Go for the Tux
Ditch the evening gown and let’s make a fashion statement at weddings and cocktail parties with a clean, sharp tux. Ooze with confidence and fashion with this look. Go for a black number and pair it with a rich looking blouse in a winter white color. Pull your hair up in a sleek chignon, slip on your black platform heels, and of course—don’t forget the bow tie! You’ll make such a dramatic and yet stunning entrance by wearing suits when you arrive.
Even if we think we can’t pull it off, we have what it takes to rock wearing Suits! You’ll be surprised how relaxed and fashionable you feel—there’s no doubt you’ll be oozing with confidence the moment you step out of the house! Do you have a preferred suit combo? Personally, I love the co-ords with the crop top mix. Tell me about your fave in the comments below!
