Appropriate attire for the gym is important because what you wear affects your motivation and performance. Comfortable clothes for exercise would allow free and easy movement and their good coverage and stretch would give you confidence. Always choose gym wear that absorb moisture and dry faster for your workouts. Also, choose shoes that give enough support to your feet.
1. Gym Wear for Men
Men should always wear shorts or sweat pants. Your bottoms should be free enough to give you a full rotation. You will sweat a lot during your workouts and sweat pants have aeration that allow the sweat to evaporate quickly. The short you choose should not extend beyond your knees. The lower the shorts the harder it will be to move around.
Your top should be composed of the least material as possible and should be flexible as well. A cotton breathable sleeveless shirt or a sweat wicking polyester shirt would be most appropriate. You should focus on something that absorbs sweat and does not restrict your motion. Men can choose to go shirtless to a gym workout if it suits your exercise and it is most comfortable. Most gyms do not have rules against it. However, you should check with the administration of the gym first just in case they have such restrictions.
2. Gym Wear for Women
Women should wear lightweight sweatshirt or t-shirt made of a breathable material such as cotton or polyester. Workouts increase your body temperature. And, these types of shirts give room for quick dissipation of heat. Find a top that is designed to wick sweat. Such clothing would drain down and drip all the sweat from your chest and torso. The top would not be heavy and dumpy. And hence, it would be comfortable to exercise in. If you have larger breasts, consider wearing a sports bra for extra support. Your entire body should be compact for a comfortable workout experience.
Women can also wear sweat pants and gym shorts. They should, however, be made of softer materials since women have tender skin that is easily irritated. You can also wear track pants or yoga pants for skips and yoga related workout respectively. Tight and stretchable bottoms are great for leg workouts while fluffy and baggy bottoms would be appropriate for above-waist workouts.
3. Appropriate Footwear
The types of shoes will depend on the type of workout. Therefore, you should have as many appropriate pairs of shoes as possible. If you are doing cardio, you’ll need shoes that offer enough protection for your feet. A great pick would be plantar fasciitis shoes that are normally laced with soft inner soles and thick foundations. If you are running a treadmill, wear good running shoes that are not so heavy. You want your feet to be as light as possible as you concentrate on building your leg muscles. Running shoes are also a good choice for weight lifts because they offer ample support to your ankles and arches.
4. Other Appropriate Attire as Gym Wear
Wear lightweight, breathable socks that are neither too tight nor too loose. The appropriate material would be cotton because it shrinks back to form when washed.
For weight lifting activities, a weight belt may be necessary to guard your back against injuries. The belt works by tightening the muscles around your pelvis to keep your back from twisting and bending uncomfortably. It should be least stretchable and made of a durable material such as leather.
If you sweat a lot during workouts, you should carry a small towel with you. The towel serves two purposes; to wipe out excess sweat dripping from your body and to clean sweat off the surfaces of machines once you are done with them. Make sure that the towel you use is clean so that you do not get skin infections. The best way to ensure your hygiene is safeguarded is to use a white towel.
People who sweat a lot from the head could use headbands to block sweat from your face and eyes. The headbands should be made of a breathable material such as cotton. Most gyms do not provide headbands so you should have one with you packed for our workouts.
